Funeral service at Bramcote Crematorium, Nottingham  – August 2017

After the tragic death of local boy Owen Jenkins in 2017, local feelings were running high for what was to be a very emotional funeral service. During the lead up to the funeral it was clear the crematorium chapel would not be large enough to accommodate the public that wished to pay their respects at the service. NAV were contacted by independent funeral Director Julie Wesson to provide a sound relay of to mourners outside the chapel at the local crematorium. We site visited the chapel to establish the best way to relay the sound outdoors to a potential audience of up to 500+ people.

As with all funeral AV we specified a reliable solution that left nothing to chance. Arriving early on the day our technical team located multiple microphones around the chapel to cover both the ministers lectern and the general chapel ambiance, singing, music etc. For discretion and comfort of the mourners the complete system was controlled from outside the chapel. We ran the microphone cables and the 13 amp power from a side window and over the roof of the main entrance, ensuring there were no trip hazards for the mourners or the horses that were to draw the hearse. 8x weatherproof Bose outdoor speakers on tall stands were located around the perimeter of the building to deliver even, consistent sound levels throughout the crematorium grounds.

Given the important nature of the funeral we ensured our system ran independently of the chapel PA system, the mixer, monitoring and dual amplifiers were located in a discreet unmarked van adjacent to the chapel. This considered approach ensured our sound engineers had complete control of the outdoor sound during the service. The outdoor sound was of the highest quality enabling the assembled mourners to form an important part of the memorial service.
